I’ve heard that the murder in books two and three of this series, the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny, is weird, which made me think I wasn’t going to like this one. But although the method of murder was definitely odd in A Fatal Grace, I didn’t find it distracted me from the aspects of this series that continue to be compelling: a community of characters in a quaint small town with a compassionate detective and his team solving the puzzle. It was also interesting to me that I happened to read book one of this series around Thanksgiving, while the book takes place at (Canadian) Thanksgiving, and I happened to read this book just before Christmas, with this book taking place before and after Christmas. It did help me be immersed in the atmosphere, although completely unintentionally!
